The workshops and courses at Fundacion DISCAR spring up when a dream comes true, to build a place where people with intellectual impairment can express themselves and create, where they can have a place for their knowledge, their potentialities, their happiness.
That is why they form a myth of origin; they exist from the same moment that DISCAR was born, in 1991. That is why we think that Fundacion DISCAR, is a synonym of workshops and courses to people with an intellectual impairment, to people with needs of support.
Today, 18 years later, those that form part of the courses, are heirs to the legacy and we want to keep this spirit alive, that compromise with the young who chose us to participate in our spaces, every day improving the quality and excellence of each proposal.
Following the same path, developed from the beginning, we keep growing step by step.
These workshops that had been of artistic creation have nowadays diversified their offer, being centered in the young people, according to their family demands and the desire of professionals who keep their work day by day.
Formed by an interdisciplinary equipment of professionals and artists compromised in the improvement of the quality of life of young people with DI, and who want to face this adventure of working for and with others. So we want to let those young people to meet in spaces of creation, production and communication between people.

ALLIANCES

One of the most important tasks we face is to meet with other institutions with whom we can walk this path together and with whom we can share our philosophy, compromise and responsibility, in order to improve the options and offers to young people.
Instituto Argentino de Gastronomia (IAG): It is in this frame, that from 2008 the "Culinary Art Workshop" is held, in the Instituto Argentino de Gastronomia (IAG), located in Santa Fe Ave. 1655 2nd Floor. This institution, besides opening its doors, giving us the elements, the space and installations, has allowed that some of its professionals and advanced students give our workshops a difference in quality to the proposal given by us. Also, two students from DISCAR are making the Career of Cooking Professional, receiving a Scholarship from both institutions, with the corresponding adaptations.
Universidad Catolica Argentina (UCA): begun in 2008 this agreement of tutorships gives the possibility to students of Psychology, to participate in a practical class, capacitating, accompanying and learning with students everyday, supporting our Work Teams.
IL CAPO CANONNIERI: who has given us part of its installations to use it to form the First Male DISCAR Football Team.

OOBJETIVES OF THE WORKSHOPS AND COURSES AREAS

• To contribute to the whole development of people with intellectual impairment and their step by step incorporation to the assumption of roles of the adult life, generating a good surrounding to the effective social and/or work inclusion.
• To offer spaces of creation and/or artistic and/or cultural production.
• To offer spaces of formation and cognitive-intellectual capacitacion.
• To support the development and to strength their social and/or condctual abilities.
• To contribute to the exercise of their rights as citizens.

ADMISSION INTERVIEW

The inclusion of a person with intellectual impairment to the DISCAR Workshops and courses, it is given through an admission interview made by the Director of the Area.
To appoint an interview, it is necessary to call Fundacion DISCAR from Monday to Friday from 9 to 6 pm, or to send a mail to: talleresycursosdiscar@gmail.com
The boy or girl who is interested and a family member or custody member have to assist to the interview.
The interview is to:

• Know the girl or boy, his/her family, her/his interests and wanting
• Make a global evaluation
• and last, to choose and decide, in an asesorated way, the strategy for the best inclusion for each case in particular.
